First day, new project

Today in Boston we filmed the first scene of the web series “Last Day in Paradise,” produced by Catzilla Productions.

It was a gorgeous fall day..bright sun with a cool breeze. I met up with the director who told me that Scott Winters (Brotherhood, The Company Men) wouldn’t be able to make the shoot today because he missed his flight in Virginia. Why was he in Virginia? A screenplay he wrote, “Lake Effects,” is currently filming there, starring such respected actors as Jeff Fahey, Jane Seymour, and Ben Savage. As much as I was looking forward to working with Scott again (we were in After Last Season together), I am very excited that one of his original screenplays is coming to life!

We filmed an interior scene today, and worked with simple costumes...basically togas with sashes. While incredibly comfortable to wear as an actor, it was a completely new experience to find a character in such materials. And no, we’re not talking college togas. We’re talking nuns and monks. The web series is about a cult...did I mention that?

My friend Moon, who I have worked with on other film sets, was the DP for the director, Dennis Stevens. He worked hard to move us through all of the shots, without missing any detail. It helps that he’s also super-innovative and laid back as well!

The cast is hilarious, and I would say we spent a majority of our time off-camera laughing, quoting movies, and discussing the back story of our characters. There’s nothing better than gelling with a cast right away. High level of talent and focus + ability to be fun and interactive = my personal favorite combination on any set.

I’m still in rehearsals for “Almost, Maine.” We begin run throughs of the show starting tomorrow!

An excellent day overall...now I am just ready to curl up with a book and go to bed. Good night :)
