I'm Back from Ohio!

Last week I went to Sunbury, Ohio to do two shows of “The Yellow Dress” for Deana’s Educational Theatre. I left in the morning and arrived in the early afternoon and spent the day getting to know Jennifer Beatty, a teacher at Big Walnut High School. She picked me up and filled me in on what was happening at the school and we talked about Ohio in general. We both dispelled myths about Ohio and Connecticut.

It was funny.

So I got to the hotel and just unpacked and lounged around and went over my script, etc. I also got some really great take out at a Chinese restaurant nearby. They made me a vegan dish that wasn’t on the menu! Yesssss.

Anyway, the next day I got up bright and early, ready to do the shows! They were very warm and receptive at the school. I should have a video up on either my blog or on “The Casey & Dave Show.” Ashley, one of the students, even presented me with a HUGE basket of chocolate! I hadn’t even performed yet! So, I had one show in the morning, and I could tell that the material was definitely impacting some of the students during the performance. Afterwards, I talked with Jen and some of the students to gage reactions, and they reported to me that there had been issues in the school before and it was really important for the show to be seen.

We went out for lunch and I got to see more of Ohio and the green grass (I couldn’t get over their grass for some reason) and I came back and did another show. Granted, it was Friday and the kids were a bit restless in the second group, but they still listened and participated in the talk back afterwards. Later in the hallway, several students stopped and talked to me about it. I also got interviewed by a local newspaper.

This weekend I got to see a festival of one-acts performed by Queenes Companye at St. Joseph’s College. It was great to see some excellent performances. (Notably, Nathan Caron in “The Zoo Story.”) The weather was also amazing and they even supplied food in between shows! It was nice to take a break and see some theatre.

Tuesday I went back up to New Hampshire to do some ADR (the picture below is from the editing bay). It was great! I got really into it and caught on pretty quickly. I had never done ADR before. But it is hilarious to match up your voice to your moving lips.

Yesterday I met with Bated Breath and we all came up with some concrete goals for the future of our company. Specifically, our board!

I even saw Bob McDonald yesterday, an old professor of mine fro UCONN. I mean, really. It was bound to be a good day.

Expect to see a new layout for the site in coming days!!
