Updates! Updates!

So it’s been awhile since I’ve written, so in order to keep your attention as long as possible, I’m gonna break it down and tell you about the major points:
We had a wonderful closing weekend for “Almost, Maine!” We were sold out!
I’ve been busy at CPTV - UCONN season has begun!
Jim Hetrick and myself had our first production meeting for “Blessed Event,” the show I am co-directing with him in the spring.
I’ve had a couple of performances of “Yellow Dress” in MA and NY - both really great shows.
Indonique Tea will be branding tea specifically for the web series I am working on, “Last Day in Paradise.” (see the demo mock up above)
I got cast as Babe in “Crimes of the Heart” at Rocky Hill Theatre. I am SO excited to play this role!
Lots of meetings, filming, and auditions coming up in the next week.
Keep warm and have a great week!

I couldn't be happier with how the show is going so far. We had a wonderful opening weekend: I received a lot of positive feedback from friends, family, and complete strangers! Our second weekend went even better: we sold out on Saturday! At the end of the show, when we went out to speak with audience members, a distinguished looking older man came up to me. He took my hand, congratulated me and said, "You are very special. Everyone keep an eye out for this one, she's going places." When he walked away I was speaking with a castmate who told me he was one of the original founders of Playhouse on Park in West Hartford.
In addition the show, I am in pre-production for a show I am directing in the spring with playwright and director Jim Hetrick. The show is "Blessed Event," and I have been witness to the revision, implementation and actual publication of the script from the beginning. I am honored to co-direct it with him early next year!
This weekend also marked the celebration of "Open Studios" in Hartford. I went to Real Art Ways for the short film viewings and had a great time! I saw many familiar faces and caught up with some actor friends of mine. I even bumped into Luis Cotto, which was very cool. He is always such a huge support / help to the arts in Greater Hartford. I contacted a couple of the filmmakers, who I hope to work with in the future.
I am at CPTV today, and tomorrow it's off to Providence to work on "Body of Proof!" Have a great week!
TONIGHT---"Almost, Maine" OPENING

Happy Friday to all of you beautiful people!
I just wanted to remind everyone that my show, "Almost, Maine" is opening TONIGHT at Valley Rep in Enfield, CT.
Walk-ins are welcome, and tickets are just $12 for adults. The show starts at 8pm and runs just shy of 2 hours.
We have a pretty good crowd tonight, but there's still room for more! Saturday night tickets are also still available.
I know some of you have already told me when you are coming, but for those of you who aren't sure when you're coming or need any other questions answered, shoot me an email.

Fall update
I’m staying with some family in Boston this week because I have a few shows with Deana’s Educational Theatre. Today I did two different shows; one for 4th and 5th graders, and one for 2nd and 3rd graders. I have to say, it is amazing to me what kids can pick up. I think adults take for granted how smart and sharp younger children are.
At the top of the show, we explain to the younger kids what a play is, why we are putting it on, and what is needed in order for a show to run successfully.

First day, new project

Today in Boston we filmed the first scene of the web series “Last Day in Paradise,” produced by Catzilla Productions.
http://catzillaproductions.com/
It was a gorgeous fall day..bright sun with a cool breeze. I met up with the director who told me that Scott Winters (Brotherhood, The Company Men) wouldn’t be able to make the shoot today because he missed his flight in Virginia. Why was he in Virginia? A screenplay he wrote, “Lake Effects,” is currently filming there, starring such respected actors as Jeff Fahey, Jane Seymour, and Ben Savage. As much as I was looking forward to working with Scott again (we were in After Last Season together), I am very excited that one of his original screenplays is coming to life!
We filmed an interior scene today, and worked with simple costumes...basically togas with sashes. While incredibly comfortable to wear as an actor, it was a completely new experience to find a character in such materials. And no, we’re not talking college togas. We’re talking nuns and monks. The web series is about a cult...did I mention that?
My friend Moon, who I have worked with on other film sets, was the DP for the director, Dennis Stevens. He worked hard to move us through all of the shots, without missing any detail. It helps that he’s also super-innovative and laid back as well!
The cast is hilarious, and I would say we spent a majority of our time off-camera laughing, quoting movies, and discussing the back story of our characters. There’s nothing better than gelling with a cast right away. High level of talent and focus + ability to be fun and interactive = my personal favorite combination on any set.
I’m still in rehearsals for “Almost, Maine.” We begin run throughs of the show starting tomorrow!
An excellent day overall...now I am just ready to curl up with a book and go to bed. Good night :)
And we're rolling...

Today I recorded my digital bio at Co:Lab’s studio in Hartford, CT. The founding members of Bated Breath Theatre all currently have one on the website. I was the only one left without an actual recording. If you want to check out what we currently have on our website, go here:
http://batedbreaththeatre.org/about_us/ensemble/who-we-are.html
I will let you know when it’s updated!
Rehearsals are in full swing for “Almost, Maine.” I am hoping to get some publicity / media that I can pass around very soon so people can start planning ahead to see the show.

Happy Friday!

Rehearsal has been my life lately. I am learning new parts for Deana’s Educational Theatre, and I have my first show on September 24th. All of us have been gearing up for the school year, so there’s a lot of energy going into preparation.
In addition to DET rehearsals, I’ve had rehearsals for “Almost, Maine.” We’ve been focusing a lot on background and sat down to discuss our relationships to each other in the show. There’s a lot of layers to the play, which I adore, and is usually an overall treat for any actor. The show takes place in a fictional part of Maine, in the northernmost territory. ie: it’s FREEZING and annual snowfall averages to 115 inches a year. So as you may have gathered from this, the costumes are VERY warm. Lots of layers. Down, ski jackets, wool, you name it. It’s been interesting piecing together outfits in 85 degree weather haha.
We filmed “Wasted Youth,” which was more fun than I was even prepared for! We had a lot of setups, and I thought the director and crew used the space very wisely. Everyone was allowed to explore and try new things, but there was also a strong sense of structure to the flow and choreography for the scene, which to me is extremely useful to work with. Our investor screening for the spec will be in October. I’ll make sure to pass on more details so you can join us for the evening!
Tomorrow I’m in Boston for a read-through of another script I will soon be filming, “Last Day in Paradise.” Then it’s over to the New Hampshire Media Makers on Sunday. If you will be in the area, be sure to stop by for some coffee and news on the New England film scene.
Have a great weekend :)
Summer wind-down / Fall Line Up

OK I have a lot to fill you in on all at once.
I just started rehearsals for the show, “Almost, Maine” by John Cariani with Valley Repertory Theatre, directed by Becky Beth Benedict. I play 4 of the 19 parts, with a fabulous cast of 4 other actors.
Saturday I begin shooting the spec for a feature film called “Wasted Youth,” written by Christopher Crossen-Sills. Very excited. The cast and crew are dynamic, and at the sit-down reading we were all laughing so hard we were nearly crying. I play an ex-girlfriend of one of the troubled leads, who is having trouble letting go of the relationship.
In a couple of weeks I have a read-through for a new web series, “Last Day in Paradise,” written and directed by Dennis Stevens. I will have plenty more to tell you about that once we are closer to shooting.
We are also gearing up with the new school year for Deana’s Educational Theatre, so I have many rehearsals lined up in the next few weeks.
Beyond that, I have been traveling a lot to New York and going on some really great auditions and workshops. I’m headed there again on Monday.
And as I’m sure you can tell, I have a new series of photos from my shoot with Kim Kennedy. He is easily one of the warmest, genuine and professional people I have ever met. Working with him felt effortless and fun. I couldn’t be happier with the results of our session.
Have a great weekend, and I’ll update you again soon!
"NOW it's a party."

Well, it's here. Closing weekend of "Oscar & Felix." Theatre is such a funny experience. You meet a bunch of other strangers, open up to them immediately emotionally and artistically, become super close, and just when you think it couldn't be any better, the run of the show is over. Every show is a new little family that has to break up after several weeks. Always a little bittersweet... but... Fantastic memories! Besides, now there's that facebook thing everyone's always talking about ;) it's not REALLY the end of the world.
What else is going on?

Mid-week update

Weekend number two went extremely well! We even had a standing ovation for our Sunday matinee.
This weekend I have a bunch of my friends from CPTV / WNPR coming up to see the show and I'm super excited!!
Nothing else too crazy going on this week...but starting next week, life goes into overdrive again, and I couldn't be happier about it.
I have auditions for film, tv, and theatre coming up in the next month, so I will be zooming around between Boston, NYC , and CT!
I am hoping to get my photos online and printed from my shoot with Kim Kennedy.
www.ksquaredstudios.com
I didn't get to see all of the photos as we were working, but I saw a few that I absolutely fell in love with. It was so refreshing see photos of me
that really captured my energy, which a manager recently told me I was lacking in my old head shots. Fair enough!
The experience was very new for me, and because we landed several great looks very quickly, we had time to mess around with
High Fashion aspects of photography, including a wind machine! He explained every shot to me and why we were working the way
we did. The shoot very comfortable, and full of enthusiasm! Anyway, I hope to share the photos with you all very soon!
Have a great week, and if you are in the Sturbridge, MA, area, please come see my show! Two weekends left! And remember, we celebrate post-show with live music, guacamole, and margaritas! You know, because I play a Spanish woman, I have to go method. :)

We actually almost sold out on Sunday, which was a happy surprise. I personally

A New Chapter

WNPR “Hearts all-a-glow” Event
I had my official last day working for CPTV / WNPR last week. It was definitely bittersweet. I worked there for about six months. They had asked me to fill in as a "perma-temp" after I had the accident on set and broke my foot. It came at the perfect time. I had NOTHING to do, but I wasn't physically ready to go back to acting full time yet. So I worked in the land of member services for radio and television. I learned a lot and I was lucky enough to work with people who were not only fun and always made me laugh, but were honest-to-goodness life inspirations.

Passion

Last week's double performance of “The Yellow Dress,” was especially profound for me. I was sharing in a community's loss and performing to bring light to the reality that abuse really does occur; in cities, in towns, and even remote areas of the country.
About an hour before the show started, I was introduced to a woman whose daughter was strangled by her husband, right in front of their 3 year old daughter. She told me it was important for her to attend meetings, events, and this case, plays that deal with the issue of domestic violence. Not only as a way to face the truth, but to let people know that there are people out there grieving from the tangible loss that domestic violence can leave behind.

World Tea Day

This past Saturday, I held my second annual “World Tea Day” for my friends at Indonique Tea. They are a wonderful organization that sell high quality products (loose leaf teas, accessories, etc) while contributing to Mercy Corps and Feed the Children. Their slogan is “Humanitarian Tea,” which was very appealing to me as soon as I learned about it!
I held the tea party locally at a library in Connecticut. Friends, random patrons, and many children stopped by to partake and donate to the cause. I was surprised at how many kids asked me questions and wanted to know not only what we were doing, but all about the different kinds of teas we had. My friend George, had stored the various teas in glass jars, so everyone could see the beautiful arrays and colors of the different tea leaves. Read More...

“After Last Season” is out on DVD and available on Amazon
I was also informed yesterday that “Willows Way” has been re-released on DVD...
The CT Film and TV Expo is this weekend and I might be able to make it! Not sure yet, but it seems like it will be a good time. Plus, it's at The Bushnell which is cool.
I am working at CPTV again, which is great. It is a wonderful transition to be working for them while I continue to get better and well enough to get back on set full time.
I'm also planning an Indonique World Tea Day Party for December 5th, 2009! One month away! Very exciting. I am hoping to raise $300 this year! More on that soon...
Off to bed. Until next time! Read More...

Architecture of an Actor

Today I auditioned at Ivoryton Playhouse for “The Miracle Worker.” I had never auditioned for them before, so I was excited to finally be able to do so.
I went in at 1pm and I’m sitting there in the waiting room, looking around. I see a picture of a young woman and I think, ‘Wow she looks like my friend Kate Hubbard from UCONN.” So I hang out and get into the audition room. The woman who was auditioning people shakes my hand and asks me about going to UCONN.

Meetings

I had the end-of-the-year wrap-up meeting with Deana’s Educational Theatre last week. We met in the new office in Wakefield and discussed what worked this year, what didn’t, and what is up ahead for us in the future. I even got to meet some of the board, most of whom none of us had met before! I actually have another show coming up with them on June 8th – the last one of the year for me!

Week in Rewind

This week, my fellow actor friend Dave Neal, and I were supposed to go into NYC together to read for Robert Atterman. A bunch of different scheduling conflicts came up (as per life of an actor) so we ended up going to New York at completely different times, but somehow, we both managed to make it to the seminar at the same time. La Premiere

So we arrived in Keene last weekend about an hour before “Fursona” was going to be screened. My family, friends, and myself sat through a documentary about Franklin Pierce and a few other interesting films as well.
As soon as the film started, I really loved the feel of the movie. It was quirky and fun and the music added SO much depth to certain scenes. It made me so happy to see everything come together. The finished product to me seemed great, plus everyone was laughing during the whole thing and the auditorium was full. I talked to the AD later and he told me that they still have some polishing they want to do before they send it off to some festivals. Afterwards, I went up to the front with the rest of the cast and crew, and Ryan VanDalinda, the director, gave a very gracious “thank you” speech to everyone involved.

I'm Back from Ohio!

Last week I went to Sunbury, Ohio to do two shows of “The Yellow Dress” for Deana’s Educational Theatre. I left in the morning and arrived in the early afternoon and spent the day getting to know Jennifer Beatty, a teacher at Big Walnut High School. She picked me up and filled me in on what was happening at the school and we talked about Ohio in general. We both dispelled myths about Ohio and Connecticut.
Ohio Here I Come!

Filming for “Fursona” is officially done. HOWEVER…I still need to go back for one more day of ADR. So we’re not QUITE done with me yet.
Last week I went to a meeting for the Hartford Arts and Heritage Council at Real Art Ways. As producer of “The Parkville Project,” for Bated Breath, I have really been trying to learn about grants and fundraising as much as possible...
That's a wrap... Oh wait hold on we have a couple more shots!

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
Tomorrow is the LAST day of shooting for “Fursona.” (Week 14). We have to do one more pick-up and then we are re-shooting a scene that didn’t come out so great…and it’s kind of integral to the entire arc of the story. So off to Keene I will go!
We shot this weekend and got a LOT done on Saturday...
A Brief Recap

Today is my first day off in a week…so, what’s been going on?
Last week I auditioned for “Lake House,” the new Adam Sandler film. Very exciting. The scene I read for was, needless to say, a lot of fun.
